Located at the corner of South Main and West College Street, this building once served as a small gas station. Today, thanks to owners Andy and Laura Michael — who already operate two successful restaurants in historic Fredericktown — it has been transformed into a bright, playful, fully themed retro diner and ice cream parlor. Their slogan, Retro Eats & Sweets, captures the spirit of what they’ve built. They opened their doors on June 5th, and the concept immediately stands out.

And from the moment I walked in, that retro charm was already working.

A Clean, Nostalgic Space With Personality

Udderz Diner leans fully into its 1950s theme. Records line the walls, neon signs glow with vintage color, and classic 50’s pictures add personality to every corner. A retro jukebox sits proudly as a centerpiece, and an old gas pump pays tribute to the building’s past.

The décor goes even further with chrome plating running along the walls, giving the entire space that unmistakable diner shine. The seating is a true throwback: black‑and‑red booths, classic 50’s‑style chrome tables, and even a counter where guests can sit and eat, just like the diners of the era. The ice cream parlor mirrors the same cheerful aesthetic, tying the whole retro theme together.

Even with the crowd — people seated inside and out — the place was clean, organized, and inviting. The bathrooms were spotless, and even the kitchen looked tidy from the angle I could see. Outdoor seating adds a nice touch, though parking is limited due to the building’s size.

The atmosphere is upbeat, lively, and fun without ever feeling chaotic. It’s the kind of place where families smile, kids point at the décor, and adults get a little nostalgic.

My waitress was friendly, attentive, and checked in on us throughout the meal. Her service matched the energy of the restaurant: warm, easygoing, and welcoming.

The prices were reasonable, the portions generous, and the overall experience felt polished for a newly opened restaurant.
