Festus, Missouri
A St. Louis Tradition Built on Family, Flavor, and the Square Beyond Compare®

Since 1964, Imo’s Pizza has been woven into the culinary identity of St. Louis. What began as a small family parlor run by Ed and Margie Imo has grown into nearly 100 locations across Missouri, Illinois, and Kansas — all built on the same foundation of family values, quality ingredients, and a commitment to making every customer feel welcome.
From its thin, crispy crust to its iconic Provel® cheese — a uniquely St. Louis blend of cheddar, Swiss, and provolone — Imo’s has created a style of pizza that generations have grown up with. Their philosophy has always been simple: serve fresh ingredients, treat people like family, and deliver a product that feels like home.
That legacy is what brought us to the Imo’s Pizza in Festus, Missouri.
First Impressions
The exterior of the Festus location was clean and well‑maintained, giving a positive first impression before we even stepped inside. The drive‑thru had two cars in line, and a couple more were parked in designated spots waiting for their orders — a sign that this location stays consistently busy with takeout and delivery.
Inside, the menu was large and easy to navigate. The cashier — a friendly and helpful young man — came to the register quickly to take our order. He let us know about the specials as soon as we asked, and his attitude was warm, polite, and genuinely welcoming. The ordering experience was smooth and efficient.
Dining Room & Atmosphere
While the service at the counter was strong, the dining room told a different story.
Only two tables were occupied when we arrived, yet most of the tables were dirty. Dishes sat untouched for nearly our entire visit, despite several employees being on shift and the dining room being quiet. Only toward the end of our meal did an employee begin cleaning, and even then, there was no urgency.
The bathrooms also needed attention, reinforcing the sense that interior upkeep wasn’t being prioritized.
The salad bar was another weak point. While the lettuce looked fresh, the selection was extremely limited — just a few basic toppings, nowhere near enough to qualify as a true “salad bar.”
The Food
Where the dining room fell short, the pizza absolutely delivered.
I ordered an extra‑large pepperoni and sausage pizza, and it came out hot, loaded with toppings, and cooked exactly the way Imo’s is known for. The Provel® cheese was melted perfectly — creamy, flavorful, and unmistakably St. Louis. The pepperoni and sausage tasted fresh and seasoned just right.
The crust was classic Imo’s: thin, crispy, and sturdy enough to hold the generous toppings. Every bite had that signature crunch and flavor that keeps fans coming back.
Portion‑wise, it was an excellent value. I had enough left over for two more meals, and the quality held up beautifully.
Service
The cashier set a strong tone with his friendliness, quick service, and helpful attitude. He represented the Imo’s brand well and made the ordering experience easy and enjoyable.
However, the lack of attention to the dining room and bathrooms suggested a gap in overall service execution. With a quiet dining room and multiple employees available, cleanliness should have been a priority — and it wasn’t.
The friendliness was there. The follow‑through was not.
Final Thought
Imo’s Pizza in Festus delivered a fantastic pizza — hot, loaded, flavorful, and true to the St. Louis tradition that has made the brand famous for more than 60 years. The service at the counter was friendly and efficient, and the exterior and drive‑thru reflected a location that stays active and appreciated by the community.
However, the dining room and bathrooms needed attention, and the salad bar fell short of expectations. With a stronger focus on cleanliness and urgency, this location could easily match the quality of the food coming out of the kitchen.
Was it worth the stop — or not?
Yes. Would I return, but I’d hope to see the dining room better maintained next time.
